Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout Game Roundups

HIGHLAND – The Highland Optimist Club along with Scott Credit Union and Highland High School teamed up together to host their annual  Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout Saturday. Nine games featuring 18 teams from across the country played in a one-day shootout.    

Highland Lady Bulldogs  54, –  Waterloo Lady Bulldogs 52 – In the first game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the Highland Lady Bulldogs battled the Waterloo Lady Bulldogs and came out on top with a 54 – 52 win.

Waterloo led Highland 18 to 11 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, Waterloo extended the lead to 30 to 19 going into halftime. 

In the third quarter, Highland was able to tie the game and took a 38 to 38  tie going into the final quarter. 

Highland outscored Waterloo 16 to 14 in the final quarter. Highland was led by Grace Wilke with 24 points and Larrisa Taylor with 19 points. Waterloo was led by Norah Gum with 23 points and Sam Lindhorst with 17 points. 

Highland 56, – Quincy Notre Dame 54 – In the second game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the Highland Bulldogs boys basketball team battled the Quincy Notre Dame Raiders. Highland won on last-minute basketball. 

In the first quarter, Quincy Notre Dame held a 14 to 13 lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Raiders held a 30 to 24 going into halftime. 

In the third quarter, Notre Dame held on to a close 42 to 39. 

In the final quarter, it was a back-and-forth ball game. With a few seconds left Highland was able to get an inbound backdoor pass and basket to go up by two. With one second left Notre Dame got the ball and shot on a wild play and the basketball went it but the referees waved off the basket and Highland came out on top. 

Highland was led by Jake Ottensmeier with 15 points, Braxdon Decker with 12 points, and Grant Fleming with 11 points. Quincy Notre Dame was led by Alex Connoyer with 17 points and Charlie Lavery with 11 points. 

Belleville East 65, – Hillcrest 59 – In the third game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the Belleville East Lancers faced off against the Hillcrest Hawks. Belleville East won 65 to 59. 

In the first quarter, Hillcrest jumped out to a 9 to 4 lead. In the second quarter, they extended the lead to  23 to 15 going into halftime. In the third quarter, Belleville East was able to get some momentum and take a one-point lead 39 to 38 going into the final quarter. The Lancers outscored the Hawks 26 to 21 in the final quarter. 

Belleville East was led by Jordan Pickett with 20 points and Antwine Wilson with 15 points. Hillsdale was led by Bryce Tillery with 22 points and Darriom Baker with 17 points. 

New Madrid Central 65, – Bloomington Central Catholic 54 – In the fourth game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the New Madrid Central Eagles faced off against the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints. New Madrid Central won 65 to 54. 

In the first quarter, New Madrid Central jumped out to a 14 to 12 lead. In the second quarter, Bloomington Central took the lead and went into the locker room 27 to 23 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, New Madrid took back the lead and went into the final quarter with a 44 to 33 lead going into the final quarter. The Eagles and Saints both had 21 points in the final quarter. 

New Madrid Central was led by BJ Williamson with 25 points and Jadis Jones with 22 points. Bloomington Central Catholic was led by Cole Certa with 22 points and Colin Hayes with 11 points. 

Kansas City Staley 67, – East St Louis 48 – In the fifth game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the Kansas City Staley Falcons took on the East St Louis Flyers and came up with a 67 to 48 win. 

East St Louis was able to jump out and take a 12 to 11 lead going into the second quarter. Staley went on a run in the second quarter and went into the locker room at halftime with a 30 to 19 lead.

In the third quarter, the Falcons extended the lead to 50 to 38 heading into the final quarter. Staley was able to outscore the Flyers 17 to 10 in the final quarter. 

Staley was led by Cameron Manyawu with 21 points and Kayden Fish with 20 points. East St Louis was led by MaCaleab Rich with 22 points and Antwan Robinson with 11 points. 

Sacred Heart-Griffin, 72  – CBC 62 –  In the sixth game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclone took on the CBC Cadets. The Cyclones won 72 to 62 in a tight back-and-forth game. 

In the first quarter, CBC jumped out to a 22 to 15 lead, but the Cyclones would not go away. In the second quarter, the Cyclones took a 38 to 35 lead going into the locker room. 

In the third quarter, the Cyclones held the lead with a 56 to 48 lead going into the final quarter. The Cyclones outscored the Cadets 18 to 14 in the final quarter. 

The Cyclones were led by Zack Hawkinson with 33 points and 17 rebounds and Jake Hamilton with 22 points.  The Cadets were led by Landon Schlanger with 13 points and Ali Booker with 10 points. 

Chaminade 60, – Saint Rita 57- In the seventh game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout the Chaminade Red Devils took a close game against Saint Rita Mustangs with a 60 to 57 win. 

In the first quarter, the Red Devils took a 16 to 15 lead. In the second quarter, Saint Rita was able to get a one point lead with a 31 to 30 lead going into halftime. 

In the third quarter, Chaminade was able to take the lead back and held it for the rest of the game. They went into the fourth quarter with a 49 to 47 lead. Chaminade outscored Saint Rita 11 to 10. 

Chaminade was led by Nilavan Daniels with 21 points and Ben Winker with 14 points. Saint Rita was led by James Brown with 17 points and Morez Johnson with 16 points. 

Simeon 53, – Imhotep 51 – In the Eighth game of the Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Basketball Shootout undefeated Simeon Wolverines played nationally ranked Imhotep High School Panthers. Simeon was able to hold off Imhotep. 

In the first quarter, Simeon started off strong and jumped out to a 19 to 10 lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Imhotep was able to take the lead and went into the locker room at halftime 26 to 23. 

In the third quarter, Simeon took back the lead and went into the final quarter 39 to 34. In the final quarter, Imhotep was able to outscore Simeon 17 to 14 but it was not good enough. 

Simeon was led by Miles Rubin with 14 points, Wesley Rubin with 13 points, and Sam Lewis with 12 points. Imhotep was led by Ahmad Nowell with 15 points and Justin Edwards with 13 points. 

In the final game of the night Vashon vs Moline game was not finished when this was posted
