Storm-Related Crash on I-270 Prompts Caution Urged by Police

GLEN CARBON – Illinois State Police Troop 8 responded Monday afternoon, April 27, 2026, to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 270 in Madison County after one vehicle reportedly hydroplaned and went off the road, with no injuries and no lane blockages reported.

The crash was reported at about 2:24 p.m. April 27, 2026, on I-270 eastbound near milepost 12, west of Illinois 159, according to preliminary information provided by Illinois State Police.

“A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: ISP Troop 8 responded to the location above for the report of a two-vehicle crash. It was reported that one vehicle hydroplaned and went off the road,” said Ryan L. Wagand of the Illinois State Police. “There are no injuries or lane blockages. There is no further information.”

Police also urged motorists to use caution as storms continue.

“The ISP is encouraging drivers to watch for any flash flooding and to slow down as the storm throughout the region continues into the evening,” Wagand said.

The crash on Interstate-270 near Glen Carbon slowed traffic in that area down considerably for a period of time after the collision.
