
Albert “Glenn” Wright, 85, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 9:13 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Longevity of Granite City. He was born September 17, 1940, in Granite City, a son of the late Albert Wright and Norma (Tucker) Cox.
He married the love of his life, Lois Gay Wright, on November 2, 1962, in Granite City, and she passed away on November 23, 2021.
Glenn retired as a captain from the Granite City Police Department in 1990 after 24 years of dedicated service in law enforcement. Throughout his career, he served as Officer Friendly, led the Granite City Explorer Post, and worked as a motorcycle officer.
He was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church, Granite City Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge in Granite City.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Glenn also treasured traveling with his wife to visit family through the years. Above all, he cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special memories he shared with family and friends.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Gay and John Williams of Honolulu, Hawaii; a son, Glenn Wright of Granite City; six grandchildren, Joshua Williams and wife, Katherine, Jeremiah Williams and wife, Katie Shannon, Zechariah Williams and partner, Elizabeth Grothaus, Benjamin Williams and fiancée, Sarah Lewis, Aaron Wright, and Abigail Miller and husband, Evan; six great-grandchildren, Caleb Williams, Katherine Wright, Alexander Wright, Ellie Williams, Daisy Mae Miller, and Elijah Miller; two brothers, Larry Wright of Granite City and Tommy Cox of West Frankfort; two sisters, Linda Jain of Dallas, Texas, and Loretta Tiede of Los Angeles, California; nieces and nephews; other extended family members; and many friends.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m., with Reverend Sharon Autenrieth officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
