Rosalie C. “Sugar” Poole, 79, of Smithton, IL, born September 13, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, died Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Oak Hill Nursing Home, Waterloo, IL.
Sugar started working for ATT right out of high school. She also spent many years volunteering at Emge Junior High School and at Ellis Elementary School where she enjoyed helping teachers and students. In her younger years, Sugar enjoyed spending time at their clubhouse on the Kaskaskia River. Sugar enjoyed raising her two sons and later in life spending time with her grandkids, friends, and dogs. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling to various locations including Hawaii, Ireland, Saint Martin, and various cruises to other Caribbean islands. She developed a love for Blake Shelton, Yadier Molina, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Even though she found them to be rather scary, she did enjoy feeding hummingbirds and various other birds.
Sugar was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril “Sam” and Helen, nee Davis, Becker.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roger E. Poole, whom she married on April 16, 1966; two sons, Brian (Barbara) Poole and Jason (Gina) Poole; two grandchildren, Cody and Darby; a brother-in-law, Rick (Sue) Poole; various cousins including Patti and Linda; a niece and nephew, Lyndsay and Scott (Stephanie); and many, many dear friends.
