Hot, Humid Wednesday Brings Storm Risk and Extreme Heat Warning

Wednesday starts warm and muggy with mostly sunny skies and a temperature near 75. It already feels like 81 early, so the heat is getting a head start. A light northwest breeze around 2 to 5 mph will not do much to cool things down.

By afternoon, temperatures climb to a high near 93 with a partly sunny sky and a strong chance of thunderstorms developing later in the day. Rain chances rise to 80 percent, and some storms could turn heavy with flooding downpours and localized damaging wind gusts. Winds shift southwest near 9 mph, with gusts up to around 14 mph. It may feel as hot as 103 during the peak of the day.

Wednesday evening stays warm and humid with clouds increasing and a few thunderstorms still possible in parts of the area. The chance of rain drops to 55 percent, but any storm that lingers could still bring heavy rain for a time.

Overnight, the air stays sticky and mild with a low near 72 under mostly cloudy skies. A spotty thunderstorm cannot be ruled out before things quiet down toward daybreak.

An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Thursday evening. Heat index values could reach as high as 111, so take it easy outdoors, drink plenty of water and check on anyone without reliable air conditioning.

The allergy index is high for grass and moderate for mold today.

Thursday will stay hot with a high near 93 and a low around 75. Expect a more cloudy start, then another chance for an afternoon thunderstorm.
