CLASS 1A
REGIONAL SEMIFINALS
CARROLLTON 14, PLEASANT HILL 1: In the first semifinal at Greenfield Northwestern, Carrollton began its quest to repeat as state champions by scoring three runs in the first, 10 runs in the third, and a single run in the fourth to eliminate Pleasant Hill.
Courtney Waldheuser had two hits and three RBIs for the Hawks, while Brookelynn Eilerman struck out four in throwing a complete game in the circle.
Carrollton is now 18-11-1, and meets the winner of Nokomis and the host Tigers Saturday at 11 a.m. The Wolves end their season at 2-15.
In the make-up regional play-in games from Tuesday, Odin won over Valmeyer 15-5, Waterloo Gibault Catholic eliminated New Athens 4-2, and Pleasant Hill defeated Maryville Christian 23-0.
CLASS 2A
PLAY-IN GAMES
BELLEVILLE ALTHOFF CATHOLIC 32, FATHER MCGIVNEY CATHOLIC 21: In what turned out to be a shootout, McGivney led after the first inning 5-0, but Althoff scored 12 runs in both the second and sixth innings, single runs in the fourth and fifth, and six more runs in the seventh to take the win at Griffins Park to eliminate McGivney.
Nora Mensing had two hits and three RBIs for the Griffins, while Alexa Jones went all the way in the circle, striking out two.
The Crusaders are now 4-11, and advance to the Freeburg regional, where they’ll play the host Midgets Wednesday at 4 p.m. McGivney ends the season at 10-13.
In other play-in games on Tuesday, Breese Central shut out Salem 9-0, Staunton eliminated Vandalia 9-2, and Trenton Wesclin knocked out Marquette Catholic 11-1.
The Cougars are now 17-14 and advance to the Flora regional, where they will play Nashville on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Wildcats end their season at 11-19.
The Bulldogs are now 14-10, and move on to the Vandalia regional and a semifinal date with Greenville on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Vandals were eliminated at 5-20. The Warriors are now 6-23, and go on to their own regional, where they will meet Red Bud on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Explorers were eliminated at 7-13-1.
CLASS 3A
In the first semifinal of the Chatham Glenwood regional, the host Titans eliminated Civic Memorial 10-0. Glenwood is now 25-2, and will face Charleston, who won over Taylorville 6-3, in the final on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles ended their season at 10-17.
CLASS 4A
BELLEVILLE EAST 10, COLLINSVILLE 1: In the first semifinal at Belleville East, the host Lancers scored, after spotting a 1-0 Collinsville lead, three runs in the second and sixth, single runs in the third and fifth, and two runs in the fourth to eliminate the Kahoks and move to the final.
Aubrey Bordoni had a hit and Collinsville’s only RBI, with Faith Fairchild having the other hit. Bordoni also went all the way inside the circle, fanning four.
East is now 29-7, and moves on to the final on Friday against the winner of Alton and Belleville West, who play on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The final is also set for 4:30 p.m. The Kahoks season closes out at 6-21,
In the first semifinal at O’Fallon, Edwardsville got a four-inning perfect game from Marley Fox, along with a Savanna Lewis grand slam homer, to eliminate Granite City 16-0. The Tigers are now 26-9, and advance to the final at 4 p.m. on Friday against the winner of the host Panthers and Springfield, who will play on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Warriors were eliminated at 5-21.
