Crash On Route Three Claims The Life Of 1 Tuesday Night

HARTFORD – A crash south of Hartford claimed the life of one and critically injured a second person Tuesday night around 10:00 p.m.

Wood River dispatch was notified that two vehicles had crashed on route 3 south of New Poag Rd. Hartford, Illinois State Police and South Roxana police responded along with firefighters from Hartford and Mitchell.

Police officers found one vehicle in a ditch on the side of the road and the second vehicle on the roadway, both vehicles had heavy damage. Firefighters found the person in the vehicle in the ditch unresponsive and deceased. The name has not been released.

The person was trapped in the second vehicle and firefighters worked to free them. Arch Medical Helicopter could not fly due to the weather in the area, so Alton Memorial Ambulance transported the second victim.

Madison County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. Rt. 3 southbound was closed for several hours while police investigated the accident.

No other information had been released.
