Several Area Wrestlers Will Advance To Saturday But Some Will Not Advance
CHAMPAIGN – A handful of wrestlers will be coming home after a tough IHSA State Wrestling Tournament but several stayed alive to wrestle on Saturday.
In 1A 126 lbs Roxana’s Logan Riggs started the day off with a win in the second round of the wrestlebacks over Thomas Soward with a pin at 3:13. He then faced Lincoln Hoger in the quarterfinals wrestleback. He dropped that match in a close battle 6-4 to head home.
In the 1A 132 lbs second round wrestlebacks Brandon Green Jr stayed alive with a pin over Cole Yarbrough at 1:09 to advance to the semi-final wrestlebacks.
Braden Johnson stayed alive in the 1A 150 lbs class. He pinned Nate Othon 2:32 to advance to the quarterfinal wrestleback.
Roxanas Lyndon Thies stayed alive when he pinned Eli Burns.
In 2A Civic Memorials Avery Jamie did not advance; he lost a 7-0 decision to Jake Lowitzki, also coming home is Bradley Ruckman he dropped a close one to Noah Woods.
Civic Memorial’s Caleb Scott stayed alive when he won 8-0 decision over Chance Woods. Scott moved on to quarter final wrestlebacks.
Nathan Herrin had a tough weekend he went 0-2 in the 144 lbs weight class. In his final match, he lost 13-8 to Malaki Jackson.
James Wojcikiewicz won his first match of the day by a 13-2 decision over Colin Goggin. In his second match he dropped a heartbreaker 4-2 in overtime to Santino. James went 1-2 this weekend.
EAWR Drake Champlin, Roxana’s James Herring, and Civic Memorials Bryce Griffin will wrestle tonight for a chance to advance to the championship round.
